1. Is most of the Wagmatcook offering indoors
or outdoors?
Wagmatcook's main services are all indoors. The historical presentation
with traditional dancers, smudge ceremony and video are all indoors,
as well as the restaurant, and craft demonstrations. The only thing
that is outdoors is the optional boat tour.
2. Is it a good rainy day activity?
Yes. Aside from the boat tour, you can enjoy all of the experiences
of Wagmatcook indoors, making it a great cultural entertainment
option for any weather.
3. Is it in English/ French/Spanish/other
languages?
The Wagmatcook experience is predominantly in English. Although,
some of the performances include the traditional language of the
Mi'kmaq people, with full English translation.
4. Do you provide any food services?
Yes. Both traditional Mi'kmaw meals and North American dishes can
be found in the restaurant. As well, an optional traditional Mi'kmaw
meal is included in some tour packages.
5. I have dietary concerns; can you accommodate
them?
Yes. Please let us know if you have dietary concerns, and we will
try our best to accommodate them.
6. What kind of clothing should I wear?
The Wagmatcook experience is quite relaxed. There is no need for
special clothing. However, if you are going on the optional boat
tour, you may want to have an extra layer, as it is often cooler
on the lake.
7. Who runs the Wagmatcook Culture and Heritage Center?
Wagmatcook is an actual First Nations community. Many members
of the community work and run the Cultural Centre, and some will be involved
in your presentation.
8. Are they wearing traditional dress?
Traditional costume is not a part of the Wagmatcook experience.
Although from time to time, some special performers and presenters
may attend in traditional dress.
9. How much time will it take?
The Wagmatcook experience can vary in time, depending on how many
optional items you include. We recommend reserving about two hours
for the standard package, including the multimedia presentation,
meal and time to browse through the exhibit, and up to four hours
if you include the boat tour.
10. How do I get there?
Situated in the Cape Breton highlands, the Wagmatcook Culture and Heritage Center
lies 10 miles west of Baddeck, or approximitly one hour north of Port Hawksbury,
surrounded by the breathtaking natural scenery of the Bras d'Or Lakes. click for directions

12. Is it suitable for children/families/all
ages?
Yes. The Wagmatcook experience is of interest to all ages as it
includes live drumming, and a smudge ceremony, as well as a video
presentation of the history of the Mi’kmaq. Young children
should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
13. What days are open, and your hours?
Interpretive Center hours are Monday-Saturday 9am - 8pm.
The restaurant and craft shop are open 7 days a week from 8am - 8pm.
14. Are there any special events or special
time of day to visit?
Wagmatcook has many special events throughout the year, including craft demonstrations,
dance performances and concerts. Please check our Schedule
for dates and times.
16. Do you have a gift shop?
We have many gifts and crafts available in our restaurant. We also have regular
demonstrations of the artisans making of these items in the restaurant.
17. Is it wheelchair accessible?
All buildings at the Wagmatcook Culture and Heritage Centre are modern and fully
accessible with clean washroom facilities.
18. Can I take pictures?
We welcome you to take photos throughout your visit, and to
share them with your friends back home. However, for the enjoyment
of the other guests, we do not allow flash photography during the
video presentation and no photographs may be taken during the sacred smudge ceremony.
19. What will I see here?
The Wagmatcook experience starts with the breathtaking views of the Bras d'Or
Lakes. We are situated right on the water, and enjoy the views from our marina
and dock, or from our windowed facilities. You will also see traditional Mi’kmaq
drummers and singers, an authentic smudge ceremony (performed by an elder from
the community), and a video presentation that shows the history of the Mi’kmaw
people over the years. You may also see demonstrations from local artists and
craft makers.
20. Do you offer package deals or can I
just stop in?
Yes, please stop in. Package deals are available for groups of 6 to 500.
